The Problem

On January 1, 2026, the EU banned the use of virgin fluorinated gases with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) above 2,500 for servicing air conditioning and heat pump equipment. This is not theoretical — it's already in effect. R410A (GWP 2088) is being phased out. New commercial refrigeration equipment must use A2L or low-GWP refrigerants. Heat pumps installed after 2025 must use refrigerants with GWP below 150.

For the hundreds of thousands of HVAC contractors and refrigeration technicians across Europe, this means:

  • Every refrigerant transaction must be logged (additions, removals, top-ups)
  • Equipment with 5+ tonnes CO2 equivalent needs regular leak checks
  • Technician certifications must be updated to new EU standards by March 2027
  • F-gas Portal registration and record maintenance is mandatory (though ~10,000 small firms may get exemptions)
  • Records must be kept for at least 5 years and be audit-ready

Most small HVAC businesses handle this with paper logbooks, spreadsheets, or not at all. The existing software solutions (FTrack, Joblogic, Parasense) are either UK-focused (post-Brexit different regulation), enterprise-priced, or feature-limited. There is no affordable, EU-regulation-specific, mobile-first F-gas compliance tool built for the European HVAC SMB.
